This one has been a long time coming folks! Artificial Dreamer has had an astounding year with a large variety of hits with his other project Arc. Not only that, he has been one of the main forces behind Dangerbox’s rise in the underground dance music scene. What was once a fresh imprint hidden in obscurity, Dangerbox is now a strong contender with release after release garnering support from all the major jockeys. One may be left to wonder just where he found the time to mash these three breathtaking tracks together. Artificial Dreamer’s Impure EP is an incredible package that reflects his strong passion for music. Each track has its own unique vibe but still manages to be utterly A-dreamer’esque. Chalk full of massive basslines, catchy hooks, and flowing rhythms, its safe to say that this release was well worth the wait.

“Jimmy Batista is a guy that you might know better as Artificial Dreamer…His game? All sorts of swirly soundscapes, backed by a thumping beat. And indeed, Artificial Dreamer has been swirling up a storm! I first caught on with his remix of Native’s Choices (Which I still love to this day), and since then I’ve clung for dear life! The Impure EP is his latest, and I’m hoping it destroys some floors somewhere ’round the world! Read on. -

Impure (Original Mix) -
From the start we know this is going to be interesting…With just a kick and clap as the only present elements, we begin hearing all sorts of male vocal chops, as well as a bassline that tears the mix a new one, then, after the post-transition break, it proceeds to tear you a new one. Everything starts to gel together, as schizophrenic as it sounds, with some new percussion layers and rhythm synths. The break introduces a noise-laden pad, that is attacked by that mean, MEAN bass. Vocal cuts litter the mix, as we begin the short climb back into the groove. The trancier side of Artificial Dreamer climbs in as we progress, with a light arp permeating the gritty, choppy waters of the soundscape. Definitely one of the more unique and destructive tracks you will hear this year!

Aqui (Original Mix) -
A slick groove builds up, spiked with the occasional motherf*cker of a bassline, as well as female vocal samples and light synthwork. The first break kicks out all sorts of filtered glitch and bell-like arps, before we slam back in with a subtler bassline, being less dominant, but still edgy in its random outbursts. We groove along, being led along by the lighter synthwork, more so than the bass and vocal cuts. Jimmy reminds us of his melodic capabilities with a brief synth break, before he decides to contrast that with an injection of energy and groove, and so we slide along, until we actually get a key change at the break near the end, which is somewhat unusual, but welcomed. There is a very tangible journey about this track.

Mea (Original Mix) -
Mea seems to walk the path between its predecessors, in that it relies a lot on vocal cuts (Impure), as well as a consistent bassline and rhythm synth (Aqui)…Hmm, come to think of it, the vocal samples in this particular track sound like they came from Myon’s Albion (Which is Andain’s Beautiful Things played backwards)…They have that progression to them. Anyways, moving on. We get a wonderful trance-like break, complete with a stockpile of pads, twinkly synths, crazy vocal choppity chops, and that monster of a bassline (As we build up). The groove kicks back in and you cannot help but tap your foot, bob your head, or whatever you do to translate rhythm into motion!

Chaotic consistency; a whirlwind of sound! It is difficult to pick a favorite…They are very congruent, yet uniquely different. Impure is a reamer, Aqui is deeper, and Mea is deeply reaming :P . I think I’ll go with Mea for the time being, but I love them all! 9/10.”
