Review:
All around this EP doesn’t really offer a theme, which I love. Monologue shows us with this release that, even within the same genre, he is not a one trick pony. I wasn’t expecting to hear such beautiful melody out of every track, yet here it is. I focus a lot on the melody in this review because I feel he has done so much work within just that one section of each track. When listening to each song in their entirety Monologue has generated an excellent amalgamation of glorious synths with basslines that will keep the dancefloor pulsating. A look at each track will shed some light on what it took to put this ferocious EP together.
Beach - Light and airy beats introduce the track followed by an excellent plucking melody and soothing bass. Building occilation above an increasingly housy beat gives the feeling of grandure one might experience when gazing over a seemingly infite ocean. Finally, the track takes a break to bring in a sweeping melody, only to piece it back together complete with the aforementioned house beat that is sure to get you moving.
Leaving Home - Melody laden, this track is gorgeous; a trotting beat and subtle bass work together to ensure nothing keeps you from the sweeping synths that enevitably flood over you. Leaving Home definitely shows the brighter side of what lies ahead.
Baguette - A wonderfully playful track that puts a renaissance spin on the melody to give a very “European” feel. The bass is deep, steady, and allows for even more playfullness on the high end while avoiding being completely drowned out. Superb composition throughout.
Skywalker - Monologue doesn’t let us walk away without showing his mastery of complex melody and principal basslines. Midway through “Skywalker” we’re offered a breakdown giving away a tightly contoured bassline and an added haziness to the already chilling synths. Clearly a veteran flexing wonderful talent.
