Dilution at its Finest

Lately I have been hearing a lot about the industry we care so much about diluting itself. Specifically Trance music; there has been talk about how popular Trance today is no longer Trance but a mixture of House and Trance that has been dubbed “Trouse”. A certain DJ in particular seems to think the change is so significant that he has taken it upon himself to champion the genre.

While any change in an industry with massively passionate fans will warrant push back out of what I can only suspect is fear. The simple fact of the matter is everyone should be happy about this really. If you step back and look at what Tiesto just did, it really makes sense and should garner more respect. Tiesto, a Legend in Electronic Music production, someone who shaped the industry itself, not because he wanted to, but because the gravity of his own success pulled fans from all corners of the world; has been making music lately that has one foot planted in the “Pop” music industry and the other true to his past. Lots of people have been angry about such things. David Guetta, Deadmau5, and Tiesto have all taken flack for making music with Rap artists and figures like Rihanna and generally just making music that people who know nothing about the industry would like.

Then, Tiesto steps up and says, enough is enough. By standing behind a new genre, championing it in the spotlight, Tiesto has taken his music away from the Trance and House scenes to let the artists there make music truly worthy of the Genre’s name. He realized that no one was happy calling this “pop” music House and certainly not happy calling it Trance. Now we can neatly place Tiesto’s new pop-ish works in a category all their own and leave the true Trance to excellent artists, like everyone involved with this label and people who have been doing it just as long, like Thrillseekers, Gareth Emery, and Lange. I mean, have you heard any of Sundrowner’s tracks?! F***!, And that’s just ONE GUY on this label. Not to get all Dangerbox-puffy over here, but whoever is running this place knows how to pick ‘em.

But I digress, is the Industry diluting itself? I don’t know, is Tiesto the industry? I think Electronic Music is just fine, even better now that we have a massively successful artist that shows he can care about pushing the sound into pop culture and care about the industry that brought him to where he is all at the same time. Then again, that’s just my take on it.

eleven point five gives away a free track this month, this time in more of a nice deep progressive house direction. Not your typical 11.5 production but if you notice, there is something hidden within the production. The atmosphere, is very very familiar. This use to be an alternate version of his remix for a recent Dangerbox Release “Silva – Dark Brown Eyes” which you can listen to:

I remember listening to this when eleven.five first sent it, thinking it needed to be heavier but within it self, it does sound pleasantly deep. Nothing wrong with alternate mixes or turning remixes into original giveaways! Love this. Show some db love to eleven.five….some more surprises and fun tracks ahead.
